I have only three weeks left here in Washington DC. We are working on our big policy papers now, which are five credits in themselves. They need to be 15-20 (or more) pages of research, conclusions and recommendations on a specific policy, which should somehow relate to our internship in order to encompass the whole academic experience. My paper will be very much related to my everyday work at the Federal Communications Commission. I’m focusing on the National Broadband Plan, which is part of the stimulus package and is calling for the FCC to develop a plan to make sure everyone in America can have access to high-speed Internet. I’m focusing on how this will affect rural America, particularly farmers and American Indian tribes. This includes an analysis of the “digital divide” in America and how the National Broadband Plan might be able to start closing that gap.
