Poking around the new library...in style.

As I may have mentioned before, I now work for the new cafes in the Science and Engineering Library and the new Thompson library.  Working in a library affords me great opportunities, such as pretending that I’m going to get a lot more studying done once fall quarter rolls around.   And exploring.  The SEL is basically old news to my veteran self, but the new library is full of nooks and crannies with my name written all over them.

Since I have nothing to study yet, my top favourite things to do in the new library have included jamming through the stacks to my iPod and not caring that the walls are made out of glass and everyone across the atrium can see me looking foolish, flipping through books at random and mentally noting that I should be reading a lot more than I currently am, perusing the school yearbook, the Makio, from 1938, peering out from each of the windows on the 11th floor where one can see in every inch of campus in every direction for miles…posting this blog.

That library is going to be crawling in the fall.  And I’m excited.  Nothing feels more collegiate than mingling coeds, books in hand, surrounded by the general glamour of a brand-spankin'-new/ still classic library.  Strolling leisurely through the library whetted my appetite for knowledge.  I have yet to experience that atmosphere in college, and I’m excited.  If that makes me a loser, so be it.

Bring on the school year!  Just kidding, I’m not that excited.  But if I’m going to have to study, at least now there are no excuses.

Go check out the new library for real though if you haven’t, and surely don’t skip that 11th floor!
